elvis laskin

last week i was privileged enough to meet melissa laskin of elvis laskin and let me tell you -- she is absolutely AMAZING. she is an incredible artist turned stylist turned designer and i am in total awe of every single one of her pieces!! each of her one-of-a-kind designs begins as a painting and is then scanned and imprinted with heat onto the fabric of her choosing.  i was in such awe of this dress i nearly died...like a million times...if someone isn't wearing this masterpiece on some red carpet i am going to be devastated...

this is the masterpiece dress. the incredible yellow doesn't show in the photo so much but IRL it is literally breathtaking...

one of melissa's paintings transferred to a luxe cotton tee with matte sequined sleeves (um...i need matte sequins in my LIFE...)

these are more paintings by the wonderful melissa laskin - the abstract art on these canvases is embodied by the garments she creates and i have truly not seen anything more inspiring in a very long time...

hope you enjoyed this designer spotlight!! check out more melissa laskin here and PS -- she uses carrie dee as her primary model...ahhhhhh. ANTM....xx

sally mann

my freshman year of college i took a series of art studio classes that i can definitively say made a greater impression on my soul than any other class i have ever taken. the midterms/finals were a series of 12-16 page papers on an artist of our choosing, and in my case, sally mann. her photos have a way of evoking sadness, pain, joy and love all at the same time. i love her use of light and dark and the forced maturity of her innocent subjects. the pictures are beautifully inspiring.
