splash!

i have sort of a hat crush - although i am not the best at wearing them (too hot, too itchy, can't see anything...blah blah blah) but the more i see them popping up in magazines and fashion editorials, the more i wanted to experiment and see if i could in fact make myself a hat person.  i found this lovely maroon hat at forever 21 and decided that for $15 dollars i would start with a floppy felt hat.  I LOVE IT!  i feel so put together and grown up wearing it -- besides the fact that it makes me laugh at the threat of rain (haha, no raindrops on me!).  i would definietly say that a hat is a must have for these next few weeks (even if you do live in southern california...).  tell me what you think!!

how are you guys feeling about hats this season!?!  have to run but happy FRIDAY!!  xx

feline-ity

LEOPARD. spotted across the globe during fashion weeks, this faux feline fur is this season's most coveted accent print. obviously a perfect match with camel and khaki tones this amazing detail looks fab against almost every possible color for fall. as we were bopping around santa barbara it was incredibly evident that this big cat has quite literally pounced on this season! i had to refrain from scooping up every furry piece of cloth i cam across!! (which included many pairs of leopard printed tights, socks and jeans(?)) i've done a little browsing online and compiled my ultimate feline wishlist. enjoy!!

clockwise from upper left:

     1. Tory Burch Leopard Print Rabbit Jacket $1450
     2. Rebecca Taylor Leopard Faux Fur Coat $995
     3. American Eagle Outfitters Leopard Print Jacket $40

ankles in bloom

i am obsessed with these shoes.  also with these socks.  i am loving the booties w/ socks trend that is popping up everywhere for the fall and i am finally ready to embrace it fully -- so this weekend a visiting friend and i set out on a sock mission.  i assumed every store we walked into would have a large display of the perfect length socks in the perfect fabric.  boy was i wrong!  it took 3 stores to finally find some (2 pair) acceptable ones (at LF of course) and then another 24 hours to find another bunch (6 pair) that i could actually see myself wearing.  anyway, these are the ones i wore today and they were as comfy as tennis shoes!

shoes: LITA by JEFFREY CAMPBELL socks: LF shorts: a&f tee: AA

i know i have already gushed about these shoes but i just can't get over how fierce they are and i also wore them all weekend so i feel they need more attention!  happy sunday! xx

ZULU

i got my hands on my very own bottle of ZULU today!!! after the postman tried to deliver it on tuesday (they said no one was home - this is NOT TRUE. i have beef with the us-figgin-postalservice) i finally went to the post office to sign for the little package (really? for nail polish...grr) and immediately came home and got to work.

i LOVE this color -- it is the perfect gummy green sort of swampy looking without being overtly GREEN. it has no shimmer (majorrrrr plus) and looks black unless you look real close. it's perfection. thank god i snagged this guy on ebay (although i paid retail x2...) because these bottles are flying off the shelves like hotcakes! the woman i spoke with at the santa monica sephora actually LAUGHED when i asked if they had any left and the nars website is a dead end too.

i am not going to do swatches bc honestly i haven't perfected painting perfectly and i have to get ready for a chem lab...but here is a little treat!!

booty time

i am very excited to announce that i wore boots all day today!  that, in my mind, makes it definitively fall.  it's even supposed to rain on wednesday!  ohh so happy!  along with my boots i pulled out a faux fur vest and because the sun was peeking through - i stuck with my tank-top so i was not a sweaty mess for my first TA session of the quarter.  here are some outfit pics!!

faux fur vest: F21 - grey tank: LF - black jeans: true religion (via mommy's closet) - brown boots: steve madden (these also sometimes look grey)
duke didn't like the camera...bahaha, at least we match! x

dark side of fall

okay, i'll admit it, i've become kind of a nail polish junkie.  as i said before (here), my fascination with enamel coated nails is primarily due to my best friends in college, but now that i have discovered these gems, Lacquer Laine and Vampy Varnish, my hobby has turned almost obsessive.  as my wonderful boyfriend pointed out, i have painted my nails more this week (4x) than i have washed my hair (2x).  whatever, i just want to try out every polish that looks interesting!!

anyway, i took some pictures.  these are two colors in the Essie fall 2010 collection.  the first color is Little Brown Dress.  the color in the bottle is quite dark and honestly when the two polishes i ordered came in the mail at first i couldn't tell the difference.  anyway, this is a dark dark brown that looks chocolate-y in the sun and blackish indoors.  i think it would be absolutely perfect for cloudy days in november.  i tried to get the brown to show through as much as i could!

pictured first just outside in the sun and then outside with the flash.  after wearing this color for about 30 hours it started to get too dark so i (tried to) spice it up with some Essie "Matte About You" - i have always loved the reverse moon manicure -- so i attempted to recreated it free-hand.  i am actually really embarassed to post this picture but whatever im in to the imperfect so oh well! (suggestions on how to actually do this would be LOVED)

the second color i tried out was Velvet Voyeur.  it is a very dark purple that indoors has a lot of depth and outdoors resembles one of those dark purple grapes (don't ask me where that came from).  it is a pretty shade that again, will look lovely once the southern california sun goes away!  i am going to go out and find a glitter polish to put over it for now though.  enjoy!

pictured first outside and then inside with no flash -- you can see the purple now!!  all in all, i think i am going to have to stick with my bright colors (and khakis, DUH) for now but come those wintery days i will be more than happy to pull these out! xo

bedazzled

i came across these glorious "stripper-meets-my little pony" shoes via solestruck blog.  they are a part of the newly launched fall 2010 boutique lines that solestruck will be carrying.  haus of price - lead by new orleans native james price jr showcases plain shoes made glamorous with everything from rhinestones to seashells.  the collection is called PRICELESS DYNASTY, totally fitting for such an avant garde line.  the designer takes vintage heels and gives them a pop - a wonderful look for a fancy night out!!  i sure wouldn't mind getting my hands on a pair for a trip to VEGAS!  keep your eyes out!! x
